Carta del Regno Lombardo Veneto anno 1859

A detailed map of Lombardy-Venetia, published in Turin by Jean Junk, who in 1848 printed a map titled ‘Map of Northern Italy and War Operations’. It is believed that this map of Lombardy-Venetia was created for a similar purpose, as evidenced by the conventional signs legend in the lower left-hand corner indicating various types of fortresses and giving special attention to the road design.

Jean Junk, a French lithographer by origin but adopted by Turin, was established in Turin from 1840 with a lithographic shop at Via Accademia delle Scienze n 2. Goffredo Casalis (Dizionario geografico, storico, statistico, commerciale degli Stati di S. M. il Re di Sardegna, Torino, Maspero, 1833-1856, 31 vols.) informs us that this lithographer introduced chromolithography to Turin successfully and that by 1845 his factory had five Brisset presses and employed a draughtsman and ten workers, whom he guided mainly through his skilled example as a craftsman. The city guides from 1863 to 1871 list the company under the name of Giovanni Junk. He passed away in 1872.
