A large and rare pictorial world map published in Paris in 1956 by the Blondel La Rougery publishing house. Following the genre made famous by Lucien Boucher with his production of posters for Air France, the map is drawn in the style of old maps and then decorated with a large compass rose and a cartouche with the title, both in classical style. On the continents, numerous vignettes describe territories with their indigenous populations, agricultural production, historical monuments and attractions such as the famous Statue of Liberty near New York. The oceans are adorned with marine animals and various types of ships and vessels at sea, such as a Chinese junker in the Philippine Sea. The borders are decorated with 5 large vignettes with the most characteristic monuments and other smaller illustrations relating to the 5 continents. At the top and bottom along the borders clocks with time zones.

The Blondel La Rougery publishing house was founded in 1902 by Edouard Blondel and is famous for its numerous pictorial and cartographic productions including a monumental bird’s eye view of Paris inspired by Turgot’s map of 1739. Around 1955, his successor was Max Blondel la Rougery, who ran the company until 1976.
