Rare copper engraved map of Switzerland. Showing Cantons and other independent regions, towns, villages, landmarks, forests, rivers and mountains. Relief shown pictorially. Includes decorative cartouches and compass rose. As in the title the map shows also the Valtellina, the beautiful valley in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, bordering Switzerland.
From the rare Theatre geographique de France, contenant les cartes particulieres de ses provinces. Et celles de ses frontieres & pays adjacens published by Pierre-Jean Mariette (1603-1657) in Paris in 1653. Trimmed on platemark then early margins added.

Heger, dissected and mounted on linen, showing the mail routes with distances measured in hours on horseback and hours with the stagecoach. The large map extending west to east from Paris to Cracau and north to south from Königsberg to upper Italy with the nice depiction of the important road from Venice to Turin via Milan, Bergamo and Brescia. Very decorative allegorical cartouches and lower left portions of map, key in French and German. Original colors in outline. In nice condition to be a separate publishing used in traveling. Published at Homann Heir in 1764 (dated). First Edition.

Fine map engraved by Petrus Kaerius, this map is filled with mountains, cities and villages. The map is oriented with north at right and is decorated with strapwork title, distance scale and key cartouches. From the Mercator Hondius “Atlas Minor” published in Amsterdam in 1648 at Jannsonius with german text on verso.
